"Note that my bungies are simple, but I don't carry much on deck. I use
the rear deck bungies for paddlefloat rescues, and I have another double
line about 3' from the stern to slip the blades of my spare paddle under.
On the foredeck, I generally clip my chart case to the nearest bungie, and
use the farthest bungie in conjunction with my foredeck cleat as a paddle
park. (Pull the bungie over the shaft and hook it behind the cleat--to remove,
just pull the paddle toward you).
I have since added 3/16" nylon decklines that run from the cleat to the u-bolt and back (fore and aft). The line has a plastic "snap-shut" bungie cord clip on one end and a loop on the other. I can detach the line to use as a towline, or I can use it like a continuous pulley to carry the end of a drogue, anchor, or kite out to the bow. I haven't yet used a drogue, anchor, or kite, but you've gotta start somewhere, right? I have used them as decklines--they're pretty easy to grab when you're swimming and pull yourself to the cockpit. Without external hatch straps, it's pretty hard to get a hold of a slick boat. I can also easily remove those lines to clean up my deck for showing the boat off!! be sure to look as Shawn Bakers building site to see the boatbuilding process with an excellent description of the installation of his fittings: http://www.geocities.com/shawnkayak/guillemot/index.html
