Went back to the same flea market with Mike (referenced in an earlier date) early in the morning for an opportunity to complete a photography project he needed for class. We came upon this singer/musician playing songs I used to also do in the early seventies when I also played guitar and harp in a jug band. He was excellent.
Jug band music had it's origins in the depression of the 1920's when musical instruments were constructed of any material at hand. A washboard for the rhythym section to a washtub providing the sound board for a string tensioned by a broomstick for bass.
It is ironic that many contemporary composers are using similar items to generate sound, though inputting and modifying the waveforms through electronics that were not even conceived of then.
