Behind the cars and the people is an overturned tractor trailor which caused a half hour delay to my drive home.  It wasn't the location of the vehicle but rather the spectacle which made it a slow drive.  Here this is reported on the radio as a 'gaper delay' while in north jersey it was commonly referred to as 'rubbernecking'.

I think I would pick a term less likely to be used by the media.
